This is a wonderful simple recipe for making succulent beef burgers that uses just four ingredients. They take less than an hour to prepare and cook, and the end result is perfect homemade burgers. The recipe is adapted from http://www.bbcgoodfood.com
Serves 4.
Ingredients.
1. 1 small onion, diced (you can buy frozen ready-chopped onion if this is easier)
2. 500 grams beef mince
3. A pinch of salt
4. 1 egg
5. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
6. 4 burger buns (you can buy ready-split if this is easier, and I recommend wholemeal ones.)
7. Salad of your choice to serve.
Method.
1. Tip the beef mince into a bowl with the onion, salt and egg and mix well. You can use your hands to mix the ingredients if this is easier: if you choose to do this ensure you get right up under the mixture including the edges of the bowl.
2. Divide the mixture into four. Lightly wet your hands. Carefully roll the mixture into balls, each about the size of a tennis ball. Use the palm of your hand to do this, then place each ball on to a baking tray.
3. When the balls are in the tray, use the palm of your hand to gently squeeze them down and flatten into patties about 3cm thick. Make sure all the burgers are the same thickness so that they will cook evenly.
4. Put on a plate, cover with cling film or another plate and leave in the fridge to firm up for at least 30 minutes.
5. Lightly brush one side of each burger with vegetable oil.
6. Put the burgers under the grill for 5 minutes, turn them over and cook for a further 5 minutes.
7. Slice four burger buns in half. Place a burger inside each bun, then top with your choice of salad.
That’s a delicious burger Harriet, but your beautiful guide dog is competing for our attention, and he’s winning. I think he’s asking for a recipe that he can taste next time!
